TAN STAN

A genius? A madman? Maybe both. Maybe neither. Who knows — and honestly, that's the point.

He started as Touqan Stan. Then came Shredz. Then Spores. Each alias a new attempt to fit a mold that was never built for him. Eventually he stopped trying. Dropped the costume. Realized that being impossible to categorize wasn't a problem to solve — it was the whole thing.

Eclectic is the only word that comes close, and even that falls short.

Forged in the fires of 2010-era dubstep, chillstep, metal, and hardcore — with detours through genres most producers wouldn't dare touch in the same session — Tan Stan doesn't follow rules in the studio. More accurately: he doesn't care about them. For 15 years he's been deep in the trenches of electronic music production, obsessively learning, building, and refining a sound that belongs to no scene and answers to no trend.

Will the next track be dissonant and unsettling? Hauntingly beautiful? Brutally heavy? Hypnotically groovy? You won't know. He might not either. That's not a warning — that's the feature.
